Get to know our Community Engagement Program Intern, Emilia!

"One of my goals is to serve my community. I was born and raised in Monterey County, and for me, it is essential to serve and be part of my community. I learned about MCRCC months before my internship selection. One of the CSUMB staff members sent out an email about an opportunity to start training with MCRCC. By then, I didn't know anything about MCRCC, and I wasn't familiar with the agency's services or programs. I started to be interested and decided to look into more about the agency. I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience in my community.

"After I complete my internship at MCRCC and finish school, I will be pursuing my career as a social worker. Being part of MCRCC has helped me understand how it's like to be part of an organization that serves people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, or genders. Also, being part of MCRCC is fundamental for my professional development because it has taught me about the health and human service career. The professional experience MCRCC has been offering will benefit my social work career because of the different responsibilities this career holds, including ethical competence and understanding what it's like to support the most vulnerable populations. I am grateful to be part of Monterey County Rape Crisis Center and collaborate with my mentors Erin and Bianca."
